Payment and Fees
Are there extra costs or ongoing fees?
There are extra costs for some additional services that you can choose to take up. These include storage fees (if you don’t want to put your plates onto a vehicle immediately), remake and transfer fees.
There are no annual fees for Limited edition Sydney Harbour Bridge plates.
When do I have to pay?
You must pay for your new limited edition plates within 10 working days of receiving email notification from the RTA that you are the winning bidder.
If you fail to pay for your plates within this time, the plates will be re-submitted for auction or sold at a later time.
How do I pay?
Payment for these limited edition plates can only be made by credit card through the RTA Contact Centre on 131 758.
Restrictions
Do I have to be a NSW resident?
No. However the plates can only be attached to a vehicle registered in NSW, and to store the plates at a motor registry you must have a NSW address.
Do I need a current driver license?
No. However, if you are not currently a customer of the RTA you will be required to become one. To do this you will need to visit a motor registry and provide proof of identity and your current address.
Do I need to own a vehicle?
No. You can bid on the plates and if you win you can store them at a motor registry until you’re ready to put them on a vehicle. However, if you are not currently a customer of the RTA you will be required to become one. To do this you will need to visit a motor registry and provide proof of identity and your current address.
Is there are a minimum age to buy the plates?
There is no minimum age for purchasing plates, however you must be 18 years or older register as a bidder on eBay.
Auction
How will I know if I’ve won the plates?
If your bid is successful, you will receive an email with instructions on how to finalise the transaction. Once this has been done the plates will be delivered to the motor registry you nominate. You will then receive a letter advising you to collect the plates.
How many auctions will there be?
There will be four auctions comprising a total of 100 limited edition Sydney Harbour Bridge number plates.
How long will the auctions run for?
Each auction will run over five days.
Auction 1 will run from Sunday, 18 to Friday, 23 March.
Auction 2 will run from Sunday, 25 to Friday, 30 March.
Auction 3 will run from Sunday, 1 to Friday, 6 April.
Auction 4 will run from Sunday, 8 to Friday, 13 April.
Where does the money go?
Revenue raised from the sale of number plates goes toward safer roads in NSW.
Storage
If I win the plates do I have to put them on my car immediately or can I place them in storage?
Once the plates have been delivered to your nominated registry you can place them on a vehicle or request that the plates be placed in storage. You can store the plates for as long as you continue to pay the storage fee (currently $50 per year). Storage can be arranged in person at the motor registry or over the phone.

What happens if the plates are damaged?
You can remake your plates, but only in the same style. A remake fee will apply.
What size are the plates?
The limited edition Sydney Harbour Bridge plates are 134mmx372mm and designer-cut into the shape of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Can I buy a collectors version of the plates?
No. All plates are for display on a NSW registered vehicle only. Alternatively, you can store the plates at an RTA motor registry. See Storage above.
Can I customise my plates?
You cannot alter the design or content of the limited edition Sydney Harbour Bridge plates in any way.
Will any other Sydney Harbour Bridge plates be made available?
Only 100 of these limited edition Sydney Harbour Bridge plates have been produced for auction and there will be no more produced.
Standard issue Sydney Harbour Bridge plates will be available at selected motor registries from Monday, 19 March. These standard issue plates will be available only for one year or until sold out.
Can I remake or order personalised limited edition Sydney Harbour Bridge plates?
No. You cannot order or remake existing plates in the limited edition Sydney Harbour Bridge plates style. There are only 100 plates available in this style and they will all be auctioned online.
Collection of plates
If I win how do I get the plates?

No. You will need to collect the plates from a motor registry. If you are a winner you will be asked to nominate a motor registry.
Transferring and selling plates
Can I buy the limited edition Sydney Harbour Bridge plates for someone else?
Yes. If you win the plates you will need to provide the details of the person you have bought them for, such as name and address, and you will also need to nominate a motor registry for collection. Once payment has been received, the person you bought the plates for will receive a letter notifying them that the plates are ready for collection.
What happens if, in future, I don’t want the plates?
You can sell the Right To Display the plates or return them to the RTA. If you sell your Right To Display the plates, a transfer fee will be incurred by the new owner. The transfer of the Right to Display will be subject to RTA approval.
